Isla Contadora: home of the whales in summer

Isla Contadora lies about 50 kilometres off Panama’s Pacific coast. It is easy to reach by ferry from Panama City or by plane.

The island attracts tourists and locals alike with its natural beauty, white beaches and crystal-clear water.

Whale watching from July to October

From July to October you can watch whales in the waters around the island. Mainly humpback whales come to this region to mate and give birth to their young. Every year this natural spectacle draws many visitors who want to see these majestic animals up close.

Small boats, known as lanchas, can be hired with a captain to watch the whales at close range. It is fascinating to see these beautiful animals up close as they glide smoothly through the sea despite their size.
